Martyn Carpenter

Martyn started work as a trainee histology technician in the pathology department of Dryburn Hospital in 1987. He qualified as an MLSO in 1990 and worked for Imperial Cancer research for 2 years.

In 1993 Martyn had a slight change of career and worked for a toxicology lab, the first 4 years based in Newcastle and then the following 2 years in Suffolk.

Martyn joined Finn Pathologists as the Histology Laboratory Manager in 1999 and has been here ever since, but slowly moved up the ranks until he became the General Manager in 2004.

Rand J. Wilson, DVM, MRCVS, DACVP

Dr. Wilson received his Bachelors of Science in Wildlife Biology in 1984 and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1988, both from Colorado State University. He taught in the Anatomy and Physiology Department within the Colorado State Veterinary School, then practiced small animal and emergency medicine/surgery with an emphasis on avian/exotic animal medicine and surgery for 9.5 years in California and Colorado. Dr. Wilson returned to the Colorado State University Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology for a combined residency and PhD studies in clinical pathology.

In addition, he worked for two summers during veterinary school as an assistant to the zoo veterinarian at Wildlife Safari in Oregon and also was selected for a 4 month externship at the Denver Zoo. He became a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2008 and was ACVP Board Certified in Clinical Pathology in 2008. He has worked in biopharmaceutical research at a private Contract Research Organisation in Michigan, and in England at a private diagnostic laboratory, and for IDEXX as a diagnostic clinical pathologist specialising in exotic animal clinical pathology from 2009 to 2013, before coming to CVS-Finn Pathologists as the Head of Clinical Pathology. His primary areas of interest are avian/reptile/exotic animal/wildlife pathology, cytology, and haematology.

Mark Wessels

Mark qualified from the RVC, University of London in 1986 and then spent 12 years working in general practice doing large animal, equine and small animal work. He then moved to the Veterinary Laboratories Agency in Preston where he specialised in large animal diagnostics and pathology. Mark was also responsible for managing surveillance pathology in the Agency.

During his time in VLA he obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists specialising in farm animal species. Mark has published widely in ruminant pathology and has an interest in comparative pathology particularly in infectious and degenerative diseases.

Other interests include mammalian exotic pathology, wildlife pathology and teaching. He currently sits on the Royal College of Pathologists examination panel.

Lynette Culverwell

Lynette has worked for Finn Pathologists for 12 years, with her background being in histology. After working in histology for 9 years including managing the histology lab for some of that time, Lynette went on maternity leave to have her first child. Lynette returned from maternity leave in 2010 and is now primarily involved in customer liaison, managing our courier service and working with the senior management team to ensure the smooth operation of the laboratory. Lynette is currently studying with the Open University and is balancing studying, working full time and raising a young child.

Dawn Birkett

Dawn joined the team in September 2012 as the Business Development Manager responsible for the Northern Territory and Scotland, She has worked extensively in sales and customers service roles in the Veterinary Industry for more years than she would like to admit and has a wealth of experience and a passion for understanding the needs of a Veterinary Practice.

Having worked in the Animal Health Insurance and Veterinary Pharmaceutical industries Dawn has a very good understanding of what’s important to a Vet team when choosing a service provider for them and subsequently helping them to provide a service to their clients which surpasses their expectations. Dawn got off to a flying start since joining the company with numerous new accounts now using our services as a one stop shop for all their diagnostic needs.

She is very confident being part of the innovative team at Finn Pathologist who are all customer focused and able to provide a personal flexible , bespoke solution to all our Vets and she is very much looking forward to continuing to forge strong account relationships and promoting the large animal profiles currently under development at Finn in the near future.

Dawn feels fortunate to live in beautiful Northumberland and enjoys exploring the country side with her two rescue dogs Yogi and Rosie and is currently enjoying the challenge of training an 18 month old black Labrador Retriever Beau! Dawn also enjoys travelling to warmer climates.

Steve Clarke

Steve has worked in the Veterinary industry for the last 10 years, holding a number positions in Sales and Marketing, predominantly promoting capital equipment and laboratory services. He covers the London, south of England and southern Ireland areas.

Interests include playing acoustic guitar, all types of sport (in particular squash and snowboarding), socialising and going away, mainly to festivals in his VW Camper. Steve also has a Welsh Springer Spaniel called Red.

Caron Lewis-Timmins

With 20 years experience in the veterinary industry covering pet insurance through to in-practice soft skills training & staff management and development to her current role now in laboratory services teamed with a proven ability to successfully grow a companies portfolio gives Caron the knowledge and understanding needed to support your practice and build strong and lasting relationships.

Caron aspires to demonstrate awareness to the needs of your business, offer a personalised service which is beneficial to your requirements, show a proactive approach and a fast response. Account Management at its best.

Caron has a keen interest in equestrianism having owned and competed horses for many years. However this has sadly had to take a back seat whilst she raise her two young sons James and Haydn. She also has a much loved terrier called Herbie, a rescue moggie called Mischief and not forgetting Hubby Dave.

Georgie Dawber

Having worked for a large UK Company for 20+ years has enabled Georgie to acquire many skills including:- coaching and developing sales teams and running training courses on developing excellent customer service.

Moving over to the veterinary industry in the last 3 years has enabled her to use these skills to ensure she always deliver an efficient, professional and friendly service “service with a smile” her aim is that nothing is too much trouble.

When not working Georgie has 2 boys who keep her busy and a “naughty tortie” cat and she can be found at the gym from time to time.

Nicola Guerin

After graduating from University with a BA in Hospitality Management in 1998 Nicola moved to the USA where she worked as a manager for several large corporate organisations including Starbucks Coffee Company and more recently PetSmart. Her family returned to the UK in August 2013 when she quickly began her new journey with Finn Pathologists as Administration Manager.

Samantha Stannard

Sam joined Finn pathologists as a Histology technician in 2003 and showed her diversity, by working in each department as part of our in-house, cross-training scheme. Sam found her niche working as a Bio-haem technician in 2006. She quickly proved herself to be a very versatile and skilled member of the team and was elevated to the position of laboratory manager in 2010. AS part of the Finn development process, Sam is undertaking a Degree in life sciences through the Open University in her own time.

April Clarke

April joined Finn Pathologists as a histology technician in August 2011 after completing her studies in Biomedical Science at Kingston University. During her time at Finn’s she has also worked in the Microbiology and Biohaem departments.

In March 2014 April became head of the histology department and hopes to further progress the department.

Susan Reeve

Susan graduated from Leicester University in 2002 with a BSc Hon’s in Biological Sciences (Physiology). She joined Finn pathologists as a microbiology laboratory technician in 2006. She undertook a graduate certificate in biomedical science via distance learning whilst at Finn Pathologists and gained a great deal of knowledge about all disciplines of biomedical science.

Her main interest remained with microbiology and in 2010 Susan was promoted to head of the microbiology department. She had a short spell away from the laboratory whilst pregnant and returned from maternity leave after having baby Francesca in March 2011.
